What makes a Verillas boot?

What’s in a boot? Would a US Size 10 by any other name fit as snug?

Here at Verillas we produce multiple high quality dress up and street wear garments so you can suit up from head to toe, but our true pride and joy is our footwear. Boots are something we’ve produced from the very beginning of Verillas’ story, and in 2022 we overhauled our entire manufacturing process to bring our customers the absolute best we could offer. However, just because we know a whole lot about boot manufacturing doesn’t mean you do, so we figured we’d take the time to explain how our boots are made and why we’ve made certain changes.

Do we use real leather?
Yes! Our boots are all made with ethically and sustainably sourced fair trade leather. All our liner materials are also high quality sporting textiles. This ensures that your boots, when cared for properly using leather care techniques and products, can last an actual lifetime.

What kind of boot soles do we use?
Both types of soles used in our footwear are single pour molded rubber and plastic. This means that liquid rubber or plastic goes into a mold and, after curing, a completed shoe sole comes out. Single pour soles ensure higher durability, as opposed to leather or composite soles that can separate and degrade faster than single pour.  To see photos of our standard flat boot sole, check out this

What is a Goodyear Welt?
"Goodyear welt construction" involves sewing the sole of the boot to the leather uppers utilizing a strip of rubber, called the welt. Stitching the soles to the boot rather than gluing has two major benefits. One, it means the sole will last significantly longer than soles that are glued to the upper. Two, once the sole does wear down (as all shoe soles do) the boots can be taken to a cobbler to have the soles replaced, rather than having to throw them out and buy new ones. Why nylon backed eyelets?
Our nylon eyelet backs are a huge improvement on the metal backs we used in previous designs. The nylon is actually stronger and more durable than the metal backs were, and the nylon backs have mini teeth build into them that help prevent “yawning” of lace holes on boots. As you lace up again and again over the years, the tension from the laces can stretch out the holes punched in the leather and our old eyelets could eventually fall out of the stretched holes. The new nylon backs entirely prevent this problem so the boots won’t deform over time.  To see photos of one of our boots that utilizes our nylon back eyelets, check out this Monolith Moto listing here!

Why the gendered sizing?
Verillas has supported and catered to the LGBTQ+ community for over a decade. However, the majority of the footwear production industry isn’t so accommodating, and conforming to the gendered language used in production has helped eliminate a multitude of manufacturing mistakes that were preventing us from providing well built and well fitted footwear. In addition, our shoe forms are produced using podiatrist backed science, to ensure that you can purchase shoes that will properly support and protect your feet and ankles, thus benefiting your entire body. Using clearly labeled and gendered sizing ensures that you know exactly what you are getting with your boot purchase. At the end of the day, we don’t care if you cut the tags out, no one needs to know what size you’re wearing but you, and labels don’t define a person anyway.
